Mini Masters Africa U-12 basketball championship: Ogun crowned champion

An Ogun state based basketball academy Warlords have been crowned as the champion of the 3rd edition of the mini masters Africa U-12 basketball championship.

Warlords dominated the first quarter played against a Lagos based basketball academy Top Field in the final, winning 6-2 but narrowly escaped the resilience darted against them in the second quarter which ended 12-10 at the indoor sports hall, National stadium, Lagos.

The hard fought final lived up to expectation as it was witnessed by the President, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Engr. Musa Kida who was represented by the federation's media officer Mr. Oni Afolabi; FIBA West African President Sir. Samuel Ahmedu and other dignitaries.

Earlier before the whistle was blast to start the final, the NBBF's president commended the convener, saying that future of the sport start from catching young ones from the grass root.

"I appreciate the convener of this event, this is where the future start from, from the grass root." He said.

He urged the students to combine both sports and education, saying that they can either succeed on or off the court.

The convener, Mr. Adams Igie who thanked God for the success of the third edition, appreciated the sponsor of the competition Shell Petroleum Development Company and the leadership of the NBBF for their support.

He said the championship was organized by Impact Kiddes Basketball concept in collaboration with African Youth Initiative on Crime Prevention (AYICRIP), adding that the platform help to stage a godly environment where children's basketball talents can be harnessed.

He called on other cooperate bodies, government agencies, NGOs and individuals to support this project.

"I call on other cooperate bodies, government agencies, NGOs and individuals to support this Pan-African project that is aimed at building a total child, over hauling and repositioning Africa in the global world." He said.
