2019 HIFL: LASU blazer grab round of 16 ticket as UI pioneers, LCU gladiators end stalemate

The Lagos State University (LASU) blazers has booked their spot in the round of 16 of the Higher Institution Football League (HIFL) as they humbled Afe Babablola University Ado- Ekiti (ABUAD) stars 3-1 at the New Stadium, University of Ibadan, Oyo state.

LASU blazers who won their first match against Lead City University (LCU) gladiators 2-1 on Tuesday had gathered 6 points to become the group B leader.


9 minutes after kickoff, LASU blazers striker Ajose Zacheus opened scoring for his team as his long range effort from the right flank found the back of the net.

5 minutes later, LASU blazers player skillfully slotted the ball into the net with his back leg after he buried a square up from the left flank.

It was a stroll in the park for the team from the centre of excellence as Ajose Zacheus got a brace to seal the victory for his team in the 33 minutes.

At the death of the first half, ABUAD Stars player Anthony reduced the deficit as he pulled the trigger into the roof after connecting to a long cross.

After the resumption of second half, LASU blazers looked resolute as they increased the tempo to score more goals but were wasteful at the goal bounded area.

ABUAD stars seem weak to restored parity as they lost to LASU. 

Also, the much anticipated match between University of Ibadan (UI) pioneers and Lead City University (LCU) gladiators tagged 'Ibadan Derby'  lived to expectation as they both gave a run for their money.

The match which was witnessed by former Super Eagles International Mutiu Adepoju and other dignitaries thrilled the supporters.

But the match ended in stalemate.

LASU blazers will face UI pioneers tomorrow (Thursday) by 12pm while LCU gladiators will slug it out against ABUAD stars.
