Winners emerge in CBN Tennis Junior Championship




Despite her lost in final of the last edition to Favour Mode from Kaduna, Omolade Aderemi from Ondo state bounced back as she defeated Omolayo Bamidele from Ekiti state  10-5, 10-1 in super tie break to win the Girls' 16 category of the 2019 Central Bank of Nigeria CBN Tennis Juniors Championship.

While David Dawariye from Rivers state came out victorious in an hard fought match against Suleiman Ibrahim from Abuja 10-4, 7-10, 10-8  in a tie break to grab the Boy under 16 category trophy at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.


Lagos state representative Serena Teluwo won Salamatu Haruna 10-5,10-1 in a super tie break to emerge the winner of the Girl's 14 category even as David Ekpeyong from Akwa Ibom state smiled home with the Boy's 14 title as he sent Ganiyu Mubarak from Oyo state packing.


Also, Nene Yakubu from Lagos state who won the under 10 Girls' category in the last edition added a new feathers to her cap as she won Favour Amaechi from Rivers 13-11, 10-2 to claim the Girl'12 title. While left handed Seun Ogunsakin from Ondo state fiercely won Lucky Danjuma from Abuja 10-5, 10-7 in super tie break to grab the Boy's 12 category title.


Another Abuja representative Yohann Yakubo ousted Arwal Jaji from Lagos state 8-10, 10-7, 10-7 in a tie break to win the Boy's 10 title even as Lorelax Holzendorf defeated Esther Ehimebe 10-5, 2-10, 10-5 in a tie break to win the Girl's 10 title 


Speaking with Omolade Aderemi, she expressed thanks to God, saying that she had made her state proud in this tournament.

"I want to thank God because without God I won't be able to be in the tournament not to talk of win it. Secondly, we are like nine players that came from my state but I was the only one that got to the final and win it.

However, she bidded farewell having played her last juniors in this tournament, saying that her and mates who will not have the opportunity to play in the juniors cadre next edition will upset the seniors.

"We are going to fight the senior players, we are very ready for the senior categories, we are going to snatch it from them and play them like an hungry lion." She said.

Meanwhile, the governor, Central Bank of Nigeria CBN Mr. Godwin Emefile who was represented by the director, Cooperate Communication Mr. Isaac Okorafor expressed commitment to supporting the tournament.
